About Me

About Me

RED RHINO WOODWORK is a one‑person woodworking shop. Every piece is made by hand, so you may see a tool mark now and then—that’s the kind of character you get from real shop work, not a production line. Some boards may also show tiny holes or trails from beetles or mites that lived in the tree long before it became lumber. Those natural details are part of the wood’s unique story. Each board gets several coats of premium food‑safe oil, followed by a coat or two of premium hard wax, with every layer curing for 8–24 hours. Once that final wax is buffed in, your board is sealed, tough, and ready for years of use.

Frequently Asked Questions

I use high‑quality domestic and exotic hardwoods to ensure durability, strength, and natural beauty. Some of the species I work with include: • Walnut • Black Walnut • Black Limba • White Limba • Maple • Cherry • Padauk • Purple Heart • Canary Wood • Zebrawood …and more as the right pieces come through the shop. I also use premium oils and hard waxes to bring out the grain and protect each board for years of use.

Because of how my boards are finished, they don’t need heavy cleaning or scrubbing. -Never soak it — standing water can warp the wood. -Wash with warm water and a little mild soap. -Dry it right away, then let it air‑dry standing up. (Boards shouldn’t be left to dry lying flat.)

My boards are designed for longevity, featuring a durable finish that has already been applied. This ensures they will withstand the test of time, making them a reliable choice for your needs. You can expect exceptional performance and resilience over the years, allowing you to focus on your projects without concern for maintenance or wear and tear. However, if you would like to put another coat on your board, I recommend using a food-safe wax like "HOWARD WAX-IT-All" or "LIVE EDGE Wood Wax for Cutting Boards", which offer a more budget-friendly option than the oils and waxes I typically use. (Follow the directions on the jar.)

No. I recommend using a food-safe wax like "HOWARD WAX-IT-All" or "LIVE EDGE Wood Wax for Cutting Boards", which offer a more budget-friendly option than the oils and waxes I typically use.

Totally normal. Wood moves, and every surface is a little different. If your board wobbles, just give the underside screw(s) a small quarter‑turn until it levels out.

I remove the bark from my boards because, over time, it naturally loosens and falls away. It may look fine at first, but eventually it begins to flake — and I’d rather prevent that from happening at your table, especially during a big family meal. Even without the thick bark, you can still see where it once was.

Typically, my lead time ranges from 2-4 weeks depending on the complexity of the project.
